All Grown Up

This year, like all my other previous years, I have learned how to become a better writer. Ap Lang has taught me to become a more mature student in being able to become better at time management. With me being better at time management it has allowed me to grow as a student and as a individual by teaching to have my priorities in order. This course had prepared me for life by teaching me different ways to works with others as well as being better at viewing other's opinions. The essay that was the most challenging for me was the rhetorical analysis because it caused me to learn different rhetorical devices besides simile, rhetorical question, and diction. On the other hand the essay that found easiest was the synthesis, due to use having a lot of practice with us having to create the synthesis binder. The novel that I enjoyed the most was the Great Gatsby because I had never had the chance to read it and you class gave me the opportunity to do so. In Cold Blood was my least favorite novel due to its slow paste but I was able to enjoy learning about Capote and his experience on writing the novel. I would like you to know Mr. Thomas that I enjoyed being in your class this year and that you are a great teacher. You were able to make the course not seem so difficult with unique style of teaching. Thank you Mr. Thomas for all that you have done this year for me, you have truly made a difference in my life. And just for you #Gotexans

The Things We Carry

Physical: One of the most important items that I carry with me all the time is my phone. The reason I consider my phone so dearly to me, is that it helps me stay connected with my friends as well as whatever is going on in the world. What also makes my phone so special is that I am able to look up information, whether its dealing with school or helping me find directions to a unfamiliar location. Without my phone I am completely lost as well as cut off from all my friends and family. My phone is definitely one of the most important things I carry.

Dreams/Goals: My number one goal that I carry with me is being able to go to UT and graduate from UT law. Graduating from UT law is not just a goal but its what helps me keep going during late night study/hw hours. The reason that I have graduating from UT law as my number one goal, is that graduating from UT law will help be the first stepping stone in my quest of becoming a great lawyer.

Relationship: The most important relationship that I carry with me is the relationship that I have with my mom. The reason I carry this relationship with me is because my mom is who helped create the person that I am today. My mom is the one who taught me that hard work always pays off in the end as well as teaching that all things are possible no mater what barriers lie ahead. This relationship with my mom is what drives to what to do well in school as well as having a great career once I am finished with college. I consider my mom the foundation that keeps me together, so that is why I carry this relationship with me.

Personality: I usually dislike the question of describing my personality because I feel its a question that should be asked by your peers, rather than yourself due to pretending to be somebody your not. But since I have to describe myself , I would have to say that I am outgoing, with a very laid back personality as well as hardworking and ambitious. My laid back personality I believe has allowed me to never have the trouble of making new friends. Hard work and my ambition to want to be successful is what helped create the person you see today.

Memories: In my life I have had my share of good memories and bad memories. The good memories have always helped me whenever I have had a bad day I just need to get away from the world and just drown myself in my thoughts. The one particular bad memory that I am okay with talking about is the time my parents got a divorce. This particular memory has showed me to expect the unexpected because in life not everything can go the way you want expect them to. This one memory is just one particular memory that I carry with me everyday.

Blog #4

In today's generation of teenagers it seems that most teens are in that third option of trying to represent their  parents culture but also trying to establish their own identify as well. What I do to try to represent my parents culture is by trying to learn how to speak Spanish. That's always been something that my mom has wanted me to do due to me being half Hispanic. I understand why my mom wants me to learn Spanish due to it being in being tied back to my heritage.

Another way I respect my mom's culture is by trying to stay close with family. Its very important to stay connected with family because no matter how many friends come and go throughout your life, family is what is always there for you. Being with family creates a bonds that can last forever by making new memories every time you see one another.

The way I plan to discover my own identity is when I leave home and go to college. I fell that once I am in college that I will be able the type of person I want to become, by discovering what I want to study in college as well as choosing what type of people I want to surrounded by as try to establish my own identity as well as honoring my families culture along the way. Its important to me that I discover my own identity because it allows me to have that growth of being on my own and taking what I have learned thought  my years of living at home.

Its important to respect your families culture because its that very same culture that brought you hear to this world, but its also good to establish your own identity because its allows you to create your own roots and have to something to teach to your own kids some day.

The art of horror stories

Edgar Allan Poe is well known author who gives his readers the idea that they are experiencing a real life horror story in front of their very own eyes. You could say that Poe is the founding father of horror stories. With Poe being associated with horror, it has allowed him to get the publicity of having a his very own football team named after him, the Baltimore Ravens.

In "Fall of the House of Usher" Poe used five techniques that allowed him to create this suspenseful/horror novel . These techniques were imagery, personification of the house, perverse sexual behavior, resurrection, and a mysterious ending that messes with the reader's mind. These five techniques are what make "Fall of the House of Usher" such a classic horror story, as well as the techniques that I would use to create my very own horror story.

Imagery played a key role in "Fall of the House of Usher", for the author was able to create a visual picture of how the house looked from the inside and out. Poe was able to use imagery to also allow the reader to feel as if they were the ones that were roaming around the as well as being right there as the house came crashing down. It was his use of imagery is what helped generate much success to his horror story.

Poe also used personification to give the house its human like qualities by stating that the house was evil and that is gave him a nervous feeling. This really gave the reader something to want to keep reading about due to Poe giving more and more detail pertaining to the house and making the reader believe that something startling was about to occur. This is what makes Poe such a great author because he is able to get the reader hooked into his novel, which makes them want to see what's going to happen next.

When having to write my own horror story I would use these five techniques to create my own horror story. Thank you Mr. Poe for allowing us to get the chance to view your work.

Faulty Leaders

Throughout history of America, America has always tried to fine the faults in its leaders. Whether it was a president or a Civil Rights Movement leader like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, America has always partaken in ridiculing its leaders for the fact of disagreeing with they are trying to achieve.

Dr. King is prime example of a great leader who wanted to help create equality among all races in the United States, but was ridiculed due to faults that people thought he had.  Dr. King was not only ridiculed verbally but was also beaten and thrown in jail of believing that everybody should not be judged by the color of the skin but by their character.  Through his drive and perseverance DR. King was still able to imprint what he was trying to achieve all along by his famous " I have a dream" speech, which helped jumpstart the change that would soon come.

With all the good that was coming with DR. King's success, it would be that exact same reason that would cause him to lose his life. Although many people saw the good that came through Dr. King, there was still many people that did not agree with what he was trying to achieve, and in the end it would end up causing America to lose one of its great leaders.

No matter how much success a great leader may bring, America will still try to find the faults in what they believe will end up hurting our nation. Although no leader can please everybody, it is up to them to not let others try to influence them to changing their beliefs, just like Dr. King. America is built on leaders making a difference no matter what others think.

Greg Heffley and Ichabod Crane the Anti Heroes

Greg Heffley in the Diary of a wimpy kid series by Jeff Kinney and Ichabod Crane in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving both play the role of the anti hero. The anti hero is the central character of the story but lacks the conventional heroic attributes. Both characters are the anti heroes, due to both being inconsiderate of other people's feelings.

Greg Heffley and Ichabod Crane are both inconsiderate of other people's feelings. Greg Heffley in Diary of a wimpy kid is inconsiderate, due to him using his own best friend to try to become more popular in middle school. This would end up backfiring on Greg, by Greg becoming less popular and his best friend claiming the popularity that Greg so highly desired.

Ichabod Crane in the Legend of sleepy hollow displayed his acts of being inconsiderate of other people's feelings, by only wanting to marry Katrina for her father's money and not considering her feelings in looking for a husband. With Ichabod not being considerate of other feelings it would end up coasting him his life, due to him not paying attention to Broom Bones stories until it was too late.

In both stories the reader is able to claim that due to the way that Greg and Ichabod treat others and disregard others feelings, that neither on would achieve their goal of wanting popularity or money.
